Course Description:

In this workshop you will perform basic surveying techniques using the hand level, rule (tape), and level rod. You will also learn to record field measurement notes and use the notes to make simple calculations. This workshop will benefit state and local officials, road department and construction employees, foremen, supervisors, and others who are interested in learning simple applied surveying methods. Experienced individuals are welcome to attend the course; however, the workshop is geared for those with limited or no surveying experience.

Course Instructor:

Huley Shumpert has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of South Carolina and is a registered Professional Land Surveyor as well as a Professional Engineer. He was born and raised on a farm in Pelion, South Carolina with four sisters.

He worked as a Land Surveyor for a number of years before joining the Lexington County Public Works Department where he was a staff engineer and later became County Engineer.

Huley joined the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in 1986 working in Richland County as an Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer. He also worked in the district engineering office with SCDOT before moving to the state maintenance office in 1992.
