This workshop shows participants low cost methods to improve roadway safety, reducing fatalities and injuries caused by road departures, collisions with fixed objects and collisions at intersections. Topics discussed include:

• Using the MUTCD and signage to improve safety, Maintaining Signs and Markings, Understanding How to set Advisory Speeds for Curves and Using a Ball Bank Indicator
• Maintaining the Clear Zone, Shielding, Marking or Removing Roadside Obstacles, and Guardrails
• Identifying Roadway Safety Hazards and How to Correct Them
• Maintaining the Roadway, Improving Roadway Safety with Center/Edgeline Rumble Strips, Safety Edge and High-Friction Surface, Removing Vegetation, Maintaining Drainage and Intersection Safety
• How to Read the Road and Correct Safety Issues
• Enhanced Applications of Traffic Control Devices and Innovative Techniques for Signing and Flashers for Warnings

Speaker Bio

Todd Morrison, P.E., is a Technology Transfer Engineer with the Kentucky Local Technical Assistance Program, at the University of Kentucky. He retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet after serving in the Divisions of Construction, Maintenance and Traffic. At the Cabinet, he worked with environmental, work zone, pavement, construction and maintenance concerns as an Environmental Coordinator, Maintenance/Traffic Engineer, Resident/Construction Engineer, Area Engineer, and as a Branch Manager for Operations. Recently he served for two years as Kentucky’s Safety Circuit Rider helping local agencies identify low cost improvements to reduce crashes.

This online, live webinar will be offered May 11, 12, & 13 from 1:30pm-3:30pm EST. Online class check-in is from 1:15pm-1:30pm each day. Online instruction will begin promptly at 1:30pm and will end at 3:30pm. This course will not be recorded, registrants must attend during the scheduled times. Only registered attendees will receive PDH certificate at the end of the course and will only receive hours for the sessions they attend.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed to provide governmental roadway maintenance workers the basic knowledge necessary to safely and efficiently maintain highways. Local and state governmental employees, private industry, the general public and anyone regardless of job assignment with interest in learning more about safely maintaining and improving roads and streets should attend. The material presented will be of interest and provide significant value to a highway laborer, equipment operator, superintendent, or engineer.

Payment Policy

UPDATED 2/15/23 – The Transportation Technology Transfer Service now accepts Electronic Check (ACH) payments in addition to credit card payments. While credit card payments are still the preferred payment method, you now have the Electronic Check (ACH) option. Your payment must be received within 5 business days of your registration. If your registration payment is not received by then, you will not be guaranteed registration for the conference.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration more than 72 hours before a class, your registration fee will be refunded, less a $35 processing fee. If you do not cancel before the 72 hour deadline your registration fee will not be refunded. You may send a substitute in your place, provided that you inform us of the substitute’s name no later than 24 hours before the training.  No-shows will not have their registration fee refunded.
