This course is designed for DOT, municipal public works, parks, streets/roads, water, wastewater, distribution/collection and/or storm water utility workers or any other government entity employees who load, haul and unload mobile equipment and other objects on to trucks and/or trailers. This course will be broken into 2 sections with a classroom and hands on instruction.

Classroom:

  • Trailering and Load Securement Hazards (Accidents Scenarios)
  • Matching Vehicle Size with Trailer Size
  • Hitch Types, Proper Operation and Locking Mechanisms
  • Safety Chains, Lights and Trailer Brakes (Air Lines and Wires)
  • Choosing Loading Locations and Vehicle Prep
  • Drive-on Loading/Unloading Mobile Equipment on Trailers
  • General Load Securement Principles
  • Securing Mobile Equipment on Trailers
  • Securing Other Loads on Trucks or Trailers (Binders/Protectors)
  • Use of Fork Lifts, Cranes or Other Machines to Load Vehicles
  • Securing Tarps, Tools and Miscellaneous Cargo
  • Safely Driving Vehicles with Trailers

Hands On

  • Truck Hitch Area, Trailer and Rigging Equipment Inspection
  • Loading Zone Positioning, Set-up and Hazard Analysis
  • Operation of Hitch Types
  • Loading Mobile Equipment
  • Chains, Straps, Binders and Other Securement Devices
  • Mobile Equipment Load Securement
  • Object Load Securement

 

Speaker Bio

Tony DeCresie brings a very diverse and extensive background spanning numerous industries – working with both public and private entities. He is a nationally recognized training manager with several different organizations over the past 25 years. Tony’s primary area of focus revolves around public works safety, transportation, highway & road work site safety training and basic heavy equipment operations safety. Tony’s dedication to training has led him to become well-versed in a broad spectrum of OSHA and DOT safety training topics. He previously served as a DOT Certified Safety Manager and as the Director of the Road Scholar Certification Program and the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Tony currently serves as the National Training Director and a Senior Safety Instructor for Training USA.

Schedule

Class registration is from 8:00-8:30am. The class will begin at 8:30. Lunch will be provided. We should adjourn around 4:00pm.

 

Course Fee

The registration fee for the workshop is $225.00 per person. All South Carolina city, county, or state employees receive a LTAP scholarship registration fee of $125.00. The fee includes course materials, break refreshments, and the noon luncheon. Advance registration is encouraged so that an accurate estimate of the number of workshop participants can be obtained. This is a hands-on workshop so space is limited.

Who Should Attend

This course is also recommended for division supervisors, agency safety officers, department safety coordinators, general safety trainers and/or fleet team members.

Payment Policy

UPDATED 2/15/23 – The Transportation Technology Transfer Service now accepts Electronic Check (ACH) payments in addition to credit card payments. While credit card payments are still the preferred payment method, you now have the Electronic Check (ACH) option. Your payment must be received within 5 business days of your registration. If your registration payment is not received by then, you will not be guaranteed registration for the conference.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration more than 72 hours before a class, your registration fee will be refunded, less a $35 processing fee. If you do not cancel before the 72 hour deadline your registration fee will not be refunded. You may send a substitute in your place, provided that you inform us of the substitute’s name no later than 24 hours before the training.  No-shows will not have their registration fee refunded.
